Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska spoke at the opening of the 7th Balkan Physics Olympiad for high school students, held in Ohrid from today until June 30. Over 60 students from 14 European countries and 3 Asian countries, along with their professor-leaders, are participating in the Olympiad.
"These young Olympians here in Ohrid today are the result of their curiosity and love for science, the result of much hard work—both theirs and that of their professors and mentors. This is the formula for building a scientific youth who will be ready tomorrow to make discoveries that will help humanity. Continue your dedication to physics because there is no progress without science," said Minister Janevska.
She noted that from this year, the Ministry of Education and Science has increased support for talented students participating in international competitions. According to the new Law on Secondary Education, the Ministry covers registration and travel costs for participation in one of 15 international scientific Olympiads.
"The future depends on how much we invest now in discovering and nurturing the potential of the most talented. And not only for students—financial support has been provided for the first time to accredited teacher associations organizing international Olympiads for high school students in Macedonia," emphasized Minister Janevska.
The competition is organized by the Society of Physicists of Macedonia, under the patronage of the Balkan Union of Physics, with support from the European Physical Society, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje, and the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. Part of the funding for the organization of the Olympiad was provided by the Ministry of Education and Science.
